Principal

Beginning my 23rd year in education, I still get excited about the first day of school!  I love new challenges and being a life-long learner; which is why I'm thrilled with the daily adventures being a principal will provide me.  Coyote Creek is an amazing place for students to learn and adults to work.  I look forward to working with each of you in whatever capacity brings us together.

Most of my teaching career was spent teaching elementary school.  Coyote Creek was one of my first "teaching" homes when I spent 7 years here in the early 2000s.  I spent two years in Jefferson County prior to coming to CCE, and after I left I spent five years at a neighboring elementary school teaching, and two more as an assistant principal/interim principal at a different DCSD elementary school.  The last six years I spent gaining experience with a different age group and worked at a middle school.  I realized that my heart is really at the elementary level and couldn't wait to get back to an amazing community like CCE.

I grew up in Colorado. Attended Bear Creek high school before heading out west to go to college in California.  I was honored to play volleyball all four years for Dominican University of California.  After college, I returned home to earn my teaching license and master's degree at Denver University.  Being a native of Colorado, I enjoy the outdoors including skiing, playing volleyball, and watching my kids play sports.

My husband is also an educator; he's a math teacher and coach at Rock Canyon HS.  Together we have four kids- 1 in college studying OT, one in high school, one that is studying to be a math teacher like her dad, and one with a "real" job. They keep us busy but bring lots of joy to our household.

Please stop by anytime to say hi-

Amy Rahne

 Steve Getchell
Assistant Principal
dsgetchell1@dcsdk12.org

Hello Coyote Creek Community, My name is Steve Getchell and I have the distinct honor of serving as the Assistant Principal of CCE! I actually retired at the end of June, but then received a call from Amy Rahne asking if I would be the AP here. I have known Amy for over 20 years and think extremely highly of her as a leader, so my decision to come to Coyote Creek for the year was an easy one. I have been in elementary education for 37 years, 10 years as a teacher, 4 as an AP, and 23 years as an elementary principal. I have been an educator in both California and here in Douglas County. I will be at CCE most Thursdays and Fridays, visiting classrooms, the playground, greeting families in the morning and supporting Amy’s mission and vision for our school however I can. In my first couple of days here, I can already tell that Coyote Creek is a special school. The staff is wonderful and it is obvious that they love their roles and they are very excited to welcome your students to school.

My wife and I purchased a fifth wheel a few years ago and we have enjoyed visiting several places in our mountains and near lakes. We will soon be traveling along the coast of central California through many beach towns of Oregon. We also enjoy golfing, paddleboarding, riding our e-bikes, playing pickleball and hanging out with our friends and family. Between us we have six adult children, and four grandchildren.

I have always used the phrase “loving on kids” to educators as building relationships with our students is the most important priority. It is my goal to model this behavior with our students each day I am at Coyote Creek! I look forward to getting to know the students and all of you as the 2024/25 school year gets underway!

Sincerely,

Steve Getchell

My name is Kelly Ursetta and I've been in education for 28 years and just recently retired.  All of my education years have been spent in Douglas County as a teacher, GT Facilitator, Professional Learning Specialist, Assistant Principal, and most recently a building principal.  Providing instructional coaching, professional development, and mentoring new teachers is a big passion of mine and this new role is a dream position for me as I transition to working part-time.

My husband and I are both Colorado natives and love spending time with our family and friends.  We have two grown children and three beautiful granddaughters (hence one of the reasons to semi-retire) and love to camp, ski, and spend time outside.

This year, I will be supporting and working alongside our wonderful teachers as an instructional coach and mentor.  This role includes new teacher induction, supporting instruction in the classrooms, serving as an advisor for new teacher programs, and district professional development.  I love working with teachers and providing positive support. I believe our teachers make the most significant impact on our students and play an important role in every child’s development and success.
